Bahadur Shah Zafar was born on 24 October 1775 in Delhi (India). His full name was Abu Zafar Siraj-ud-din Muhammad Bahadur Shah. His father's name was Akbar Shah II and mother's name was Lal Bai.

Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last emperor of the Mughal Empire in India, and a well-known poet of Urdu. He led the Indian soldiers in the first Indian freedom struggle of 1857. Bahadur Shah was 82 years old when the freedom struggle started in 1857. In September 1857 AD, the British again occupied Delhi and Bahadur Shah II was arrested and prosecuted and exiled to Rangoon. It was staged by Nadira Babbar and National School of Drama Repertory Company in 2008 at Pranpala Pranimala in Delhi. Lal Qila (1960), a Hindi-Urdu white-black film directed by Nanabi Bhatt, features Bahadur Shah Zafar in a big way. A television series called "Bahadur Shah Zafar" aired on Doordarshan in 1986. Ashok Kumar played the lead role in it.
