Chandrasekhar Azad was a famous revolutionary of the Indian freedom struggle. Chandrashekhar Azad joined the revolutionary party "Hindustan Republican Association" at the age of 17 and was named "Quick Silver" (HG) in the party. He played an important role in securing independence for India.

Chandrashekhar Azad was born on 23 July 1906 in the tribal village of Bhavra, Madhya Pradesh (India). His full name was Pandit Chandrasekhar Tiwari. His parents were Jagarani Devi and Sitaram Tiwari.
Chandrashekhar Azad died on February 27, 1931, after being shot at Alfred Park in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Chandrashekhar Azad first came in contact with Manmathnath Gupta and Pravesh Chatterjee and became a member of the revolutionary party. That group of revolutionaries was known as "Hindustan Prajatantra Sangha". In 922, his ideology changed due to the sudden discontinuation of the non-cooperation movement by Gandhiji and he became an active member of the Hindustan Republican Association by joining revolutionary activities. And later, he should also become Commander-in-Chief in this party.

Chandrasekhar Azad was the brain behind the Kakori scandal in 1925 with Ramprasad Bismil. Azad spent 10 years of his life absconding. At one time Chandrashekhar Azad lived as a monk in a cave 8 feet deep and 4 feet wide near Jhansi. Azad wanted that not a single picture of him would be put in the hands of the British, but this was not possible. Despite being a member of the Congress, Motilal Nehru regularly gave money in support of Azad. The Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) was formed in 1923 by Bismil, Jogesh Chandra Chatterjee, Sachindra Nath Sanyal Shachindra Nath Bakshi, and Ashfaqulla Khan. After the Kakori train robbery in 1925, the British ceased revolutionary activities. Prasad, Ashfaqulla Khan, Thakur Roshan Singh, and Rajendra Nath Lahiri were sentenced to death for their involvement.

Azad, Keshab Chakraborty, and Murari Sharma took over. Chandra Shekhar Azad later reconstituted the HRA with the help of revolutionaries like Shea Verma and Mahavir Singh. Azad and Bhagat Singh secretly reorganized the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) on 9 September 1928 as Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) to achieve their primary objective of an independent India based on social principles. The insights of his revolutionary activities have been described in many of his writings by fellow members of HSRA, Manmath Nath Gupta. Gupta has also written his biography titled "Chandrashekhar Azad" and in his book History of the Indian Revolutionary Movement (English edition: 1972) he gave an in-depth insight into the activities of Azad and the ideology of Azad and HSRA.
