Chhatrapati Shivaji - Founder of Maratha Empire (1674)

Chhatrapati Shivaji was a great warrior and strategist of Western India, he was also the founder of the Maratha Empire. He fought the Mughal Empire of Aurangzeb for many years. He was crowned in 1674 in Raigad and became Chhatrapati. In the freedom struggle, many people took inspiration from the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji and sacrificed everything for the independence of India.

Chhatrapati Shivaji was born on 19 February 1630 in the Shivneri fort. His full name was Shivaji Raje Bhonsle and he was also called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. His father's name was Shahji Bhonsle Kunbi Maratha and mother's name was Jijabai (Rajmata Jijau). He had a Maratha commander who served the Deccan Sultanate. He was the second child of his parents. He also had an elder brother whose name was Sambhaji.
Chhatrapati Shivaji died on 3 April 1680 (age 50 years) in Raigad Fort, Raigad, Maratha Empire (present-day Maharashtra, India) due to fever and dysentery.
Shivaji was devoted to his mother Jijabai, who was deeply religious. His mother had promoted politics and war education in him since childhood. His studies of Hindu epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata also influenced his lifelong defense of Hindu values. He was deeply interested in religious teachings, and regularly sought the company of Hindu saints. Meanwhile, Shahaji married the second wife Tuka Bai from the Mohit family. After keeping peace with the Mughals, he demolished six forts, he moved to serve the Sultanate of Bijapur. He took Shivaji and Jijabai from Shivneri to Pune and left them under the care of their jagir administrator, Dadoji Konddev, who is credited with overseeing the education and training of the young Shivaji.
Chhatrapati Shivaji had witnessed the cruelty of the ruling class since childhood, due to which the idea of overthrowing the cruel rule started to arise in him. In 1645, 15-year-old Shivaji bribed or persuaded Inayat Khan, the Bijapur commander of the Torana Fort, to hand over possession of the fort. Maratha Firangi Ji Narsala, who held the Chakan Fort, confessed his allegiance to Shivaji and acquired the fort of Kondana by bribing the Governor of Bijapur. On 25 July 1648, Shahaji was imprisoned by Baji Ghorpade under the command of Bijapur ruler Mohammad Adilshah to include Shivaji. According to the government, Shahaji was released after the capture of Jinji in 1649, which placed Adilshah in Karnataka.
Shivaji memorials are found all over India, especially in Maharashtra. Statues and monuments of Shivaji are found in almost every city and town as well as in various places in Maharashtra and India. Other monuments include the Indian Navy ship INS Shivaji, several postage stamps, and the main airport and railway headquarters in Mumbai. In Maharashtra, there has been a long tradition of children constructing a replica fort with toy soldiers and other figures during the festival of Diwali in memory of Shivaji. The proposal to build a monumental monument called the Shiva Memorial to be located near Mumbai on a small island in the Arabian Sea was approved in 2016. It will probably be 220 meters long when completed in 2021 and will be the largest statue in the world.
