Deepa Karamarkar was born on 09 August 1993 in Agartala, Tripura. They are also known as Golden Girls, they started gymnastics only at the age of 6 years. Deepa Karmakar's mother's name is Geeta Karmarkar and father's name is Dulal Karmakar. His father was a weightlifting coach at the Sports Authority of India and has also been a national weightlifting champion. He also has an elder sister whose name is Pooja Saha.

Deepa Karamarkar started practicing gymnastics only at the age of 6 and has since been trained by Soma Nandi and Bishweshwar Nandi. When she started gymnastics, she was suffering from footflat feet, which was an undesirable physical symptom in gymnasts as it affects their performance. Through extensive training, she was able to develop an arc in her leg. Deepa did not even have shoes when she took part in a gymnastics competition for the first time. In 2008, she won the Junior Nationals in Jalpaiguri. Since 2007, Karmakar has won 77 medals, including 67 gold at the state, national and international championships. She was part of the Indian gymnastics contingent at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. In February 2011, Deepa participated in India's National Games. In which she was representing Tripura. At the Asian Championships held in Hiroshima from 31 July - 2 August, Deepa won bronze in the women's vault, finishing 8th on the balance beam. In October 2015, Deepa became the first Indian gymnastboney to qualify for the final leg at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He scored 14.900 on the vault in the qualification round to secure his place in the finals, where he finished 5th with a two-vault average of 14.683.

At the 2016 Olympic Test event on August 10, 2016, Karmakar became India's first female gymnast to qualify for the final vault event at the Olympics with a score of 14.833. She missed the bronze medal, finishing fourth in the final with a score of 15.066 on 14 August 2016 at the Gymnastics Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Deepa is only the fifth woman in gymnastics history to land a Produnova vault, or handspring double front. Produnova is an artistic gymnastics vault with two horses on the front and two front stops on the vault horse. The vault currently has a 7.0 D-score, and is the toughest vault made in women's artistic gymnastics. Karmakar won the gold medal in the vault event of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in July 2018 in Mersin, Turkey. She thus became the first Indian gymnast to win a gold medal in a global event. In the same competition, she reached the finals of the balance beam event, finishing fourth.

Deepa Karmarkar has been conferred with the Arjuna Award in the year 2015, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in the year 2016, the Padma Shri 4th highest Indian National Award in the year 2017. In 2017, Forbes' list of Super Achievers from Asia was also included in the same year. Deepa's coach Bisheshwar Nandi was awarded the Dronacharya Award. Deepa also received a gold medal in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup. And was awarded a bronze medal at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Couple in Cottbus, Germany.
