Karnam Malleshwari was born on 01 June 1975 in Hyderabad in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. His father's name is Ramdas and mother's name is Shyamala. They also have four sisters

Malleshwari came into the field of sports in 1989 when she was only 14 years old. But he started his career with the Junior Weightlifting Championship, where he won the first prize award. Became National Champion in 52 kg category in the year 1990-1991. Malleswari won 3 silver medals at the 1992 Asian Championships. Subsequently, He won the world award in the 54 kg division in 1994 and 1995 and finished third in 1993 and 1996. In 1994, he won silver at the World Championships in Istanbul, and in 1995 he won the Asian Weightlifting Championship in Korea. She won the world championship in China that year with a record lift of 113 kg. Karnam Malleshwari won the silver medal in the 54 kg category at the 1997 Asian Games. Even before her Olympic victory, Malleswari was a two-time weightlifting world champion with 29 international medals, including 11 gold medals. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Malleswari lifted 110 kg in the "snatch" and 130 kg in the "clean and jerk" categories for a total of 240 kg. She won a bronze medal and became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal. She is also the first and only Indian female weightlifter to win an Olympic medal.
