Surendranath Banerjee was a famous freedom fighter. He was one of the early Indian political leaders during the British Raj. He established the Indian National Committee, one of the early Indian political organizations, and later became a senior leader of the Indian National Congress.

Surendranath Banerjee was born on November 10, 1848 in Calcutta, India to a Bengali Brahmin family. His father's name was Durga Charan Banerjee and his mother's name was Durga Charan Banerjee. His father was a doctor.
Surendranath Banerjee did not agree with the non-cooperation movement started in 1920 AD. As a result, despite his significant legal achievements in the field of local self-government, he could not get the support of the countrymen as before. He was defeated in the election of 1923 and subsequently remained away from public life till his death on 6 August 1925.
Surendranath Banerjee studied at the parent academic institute and Hindu college. After graduating from the University of Calcutta, he went to England in 1868 to complete the Indian Civil Service examinations.

After returning to India in June 1875, he became a professor of English at the Metropolitan Institution, Free Church Institution and Ripon College, which he founded in 1882. He founded the "National Committee of India" on 26 July 1876 in association with Anandmohan Bose. He also started a newspaper called "The Bengali" in the year 1879. He presided over the eleventh session of the Indian National Congress held in Poona in 1895 and in Ahmedabad in 1902.

In 1913, he was elected a member of the Bengal Legislative Council and the Imperial Legislative Council. On the basis of the Montague Chelmsford Report, when the Government of India Act of 1919 was passed, Surendranath Banerjee accepted it on the basis that the demand which the Congress was making in its early days was met to a great extent by this act, But the Congress itself rejected it. In 1921, the English government gave him the title of "Sir". He was a minister in the Government of Bengal in 1921–23 AD. The Indian National Movement, which was started by Surendranath Banerjee in 1876 AD, was very developed by this time, and the demands for making law for the country and giving more share in the administration of the country for which Surendranath Banerjee has been for more than fifty years. Had struggled for a long time, the countrymen were no longer satisfied with the fulfillment of those demands. They were now demanding independence, which was beyond Surendranath's clamor. At the time of his death, he was not counted among the popular leaders of the country, but there is no doubt that he was one of the makers of modern Indian nationality, of which independent India is a gift.
