Vijay Laxmi was an Indian diplomat and politician, the first woman president of the United Nations General Assembly. Vijaya Lakshmi Nehru Pandit was the sister of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. Vijay Laxmi Pandit made his invaluable contribution to India's freedom movement. His education was mainly done at home.

Vijay Laxmi Pandit was born on 18 August 1900 in Allahabad, North Western Province, British India. He was born in a wealthy family. His childhood name was Swaroop Kumari. His father's name was Motilal Nehru and mother's name was Swarooprani Thusu. His father was a wealthy barrister. She was the second of her parents' third child. She was the younger sister of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. And he also had a sister named Krishna Hoothesing.

Vijay Laxmi Pandit was a member of the Aligarh Muslim University Executive Council. But he never received any formal education. Vijay Laxmi was the first Indian woman to hold a cabinet post in independent India. In 1937, she was elected to the provincial legislature of the United Provinces and was nominated as Minister for Local Self-Government and Public Health. She held the post from 1938 to 1938 and later from 1946 to 1946. In 1946, he was elected to the Constituent Assembly from the United Provinces. After India's independence from British occupation in 1947, he entered diplomatic service and became India's ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1947 to 1949, the United States and Mexico from 1949 to 1951, Ireland from 1955 to 1961 (during which he was an Indian Also lived in the United States High Commission) and Spain from 1958 to 1961. Between 1946 and 1968, he led the Indian delegation to the United Nations.

In 1953, she became the first woman President of the United Nations General Assembly. He was inducted as an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in 1978 for this achievement. Smt. Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit resigned from her seat in the House from 17 December 1954. In India, she served as the Governor of Maharashtra from 1962 to 1964, after which she was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, from her brother's former constituency Phulpur from 1964 to 1968. She retired in 1977 to campaign against Indira Gandhi and helped the Janata Party win the 1977 election. In 1979, she was appointed as the Indian representative to the United Nations Human Rights Commission, after which she retired from public life. His writings include The Evolution of India (1958) and The Scope of Happiness: A Personal Memoir (1979).
