Vijender Singh is a professional boxer from India. He had given India a bronze medal in the 75 kg category at the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing. He is the first Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal in boxing.

Vijender Singh was born on 29 October 1985 in a Jat family in Kaluvas village, 5 km from Bhiwani, Haryana. He is from a lower-middle class family, his father, Mahipal Singh Beniwal, is a bus driver along Haryana Roadways, while his mother is a housewife. His father has worked hard to give a good education to Vijendra and his elder brother Manoj.
Vijendra has brought laurels to the country several times in his wrestling career. He won the first National Gold Medal in the year 2000 by defeating Carlos Gongura 9-4. In the year 2003, Vijender Singh became All India Youth Champion. Vijender Singh was won a bronze medal at the Doha Asian Games in 2006. He quit the railway job before joining the 2008 Beijing Olympics and joined the Haryana Police as an inspector. On 20 August 2008, in the joy of reaching the semi-finals of boxing in Beijing, the Haryana government awarded him a DSP. and with it a reward of 50 lakh rupees was announced. After which Vijender started his Bollywood career in Hindi cinema in the year 2014 with the film Fugly produced by Akshay Kumar. The script of the film was based on four friends. In 2009, the "International Boxing Association" ranked him No. 1 in the Vijayendra Madhyamhar (75 kg) category in the world.He is known as 'Little Cuba' in his hometown, Bhiwani, for giving him tests for world-class boxers.
In July 2009, Vijender along with Sushil and boxer Mary Kom was honored with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, India's highest sport honors. Kom and Vijender were the first boxers to receive the prize money and a citation of Rs 750,000.
