Hawa Mahal Overview

The Indian state of Rajasthan is known as the land of kings and princely states, here in ancient times many kings had built many historical forts, palaces and buildings, which stand proud till date, which are discussed all over the world.

All the historical buildings, palaces and forts built in Rajasthan have their own distinct identity. Hawa Mahal, located in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is one such historical majestic palace, which is famous all over the world due to its beauty and amazing structure. Hawa Mahal means a place of winds, that is, it is such a unique place, which is always air-conditioned (cool) even in hot summer.

Hawa Mahal History

Rajasthan is considered the pride of India and the pride of Rajputs, because many kings ruled here in Ancient times. The Hawa Mahal, built in the heart of the Pink City or Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh (grandson of Sawai Jai Singh and son of Sawai Madho Singh) in 1799.

1. Built by Raja Sawai Pratap Singh, this palace was built only for the Queens and Princesses to see the procession and city etc. on special occasions.
2. The planning and construction of this palace has been done by Lal Chand Usta.
3. This palace is built in a very unique way. The architecture of Mughal and Rajasthani styles is clearly visible in its composition.
4. Situated near Jaipur's famous Johri Bazaar, this five-storey palace was built entirely of red and pink sandstone.
5. The shape of this palace is like the crown of the head. It is believed that Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh had a lot of respect for Lord Shri Krishna, due to which he built this palace in the shape of a Taj.
6. This five-storey building is only one and a half feet wide from the top and looks like a beehive when viewed from outside. It has more than 950 very beautiful and attractive small lattice windows, which are called Jharokha.
7. In Aancient times, families of various Rajputs used to reside in this palace to enjoy the cool and fresh air during the summer days. It is one of the historical buildings of Rajasthan.
8. There is no direct entrance to enter this palace. To get here, you have to go from the side of the city palace, the main palace of the city.
9. There are no stairs to reach this 5-storey palace, to reach these high floors, you have to go through the steep paths.
10. It is the only palace in the country, which has been built in the Mughal and Rajputana style of architecture.
11. This palace is maintained by the Archaeological Department of the Government of Rajasthan.
12. Do you know in the year 2005, after a long gap of 50 years, a massive repair and renovation of the palace was done, which cost about 45,679 lakh rupees.
13. Hawa Mahal is also known as the "Palace of Winds" because of its lattice-like windows that always bring cool breeze.
14. Its complex was built only after this palace became famous, before that there was no complex here.
