Pradhan Mantri Vikas aims to improve the access of minorities, especially artisan communities, through the use of skill development, education, women leadership and entrepreneurship. These components complement each other in view of the ultimate objective of the scheme to enhance income and provide assistance by facilitating credit and market linkages.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana programme, unemployed youth will get training in more than 40 technical sectors, including electronics and hardware, construction, food processing, handicrafts, furniture and fittings, gems and jewelery and leather technology. The youth of the country are free to choose the training program of their choice. For the next five years, under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 2022, the central government will provide entrepreneurship education and training programs to the youth.

Key Points:

  • Learn and Earn: It is a placement linked skill development scheme for minorities, with an objective to upgrade the skills of minority youth in various modern/traditional skills based on their aptitude, current economic trends and market potential.
  • 'Ustad' scheme: It aims to promote and preserve the rich heritage of traditional arts and crafts of minority communities.
  • Hamari Dharohar: It has been prepared to preserve the rich heritage of the minority communities of India.
  • Nai Roshni: It is a leadership development program for women belonging to minority communities in the age group of 18 to 65 years. It was started in the year 2012-13.
  • Nai Manzil: The scheme aims to benefit youth (both male and female) belonging to the six notified minority communities in the age group of 17-35 years who do not have a formal school leaving certificate.
  • The scheme has been approved by the cabinet for the period of 15th Finance Commission.
