Tempo equipment launch 2023

The US space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has designed the Tropospheric Emission Monitoring of Pollution Instrument (TAMPO) instrument to monitor air pollution conditions, which will improve the way scientists observe air quality from space.

TEMPO will join South Korea's Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer and the European Space Agency's Sentinel-4 satellite to form an air quality monitoring satellite constellation that will track pollution in the Northern Hemisphere.

Objective of Tempo Mission :-

The Tempo Ball is a sizable piece of equipment manufactured by Aerospace. It was launched into geostationary orbit with the Intelsat 40E satellite built by Maxar. The TEMPO mission aims to change the way we monitor air quality while helping to improve life on Earth.

How was Tempo launched?

TEMPO is the first space-based instrument that will monitor major air pollutants on an hourly basis. NASA launched Tempo atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

NASA's Tropospheric Emissions:

The Air Pollution Monitoring (TEMPO) instrument has been successfully launched, which is a significant step in the monitoring of major air pollutants. The instrument will provide unprecedented resolution, allowing scientists to accurately view air quality from space down to just four square miles.

TEMPO is the first space-based instrument that will monitor major air pollutants on an hourly basis. NASA launched Tempo atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

TEMPO will study each of the causes of air pollution:-

  • Like most traffic, forest fire and volcano will keep an eye on the pollution caused.
  • The factors of pollution arising in the regions of North America can be tackled by using the data obtained from TEMPO.
  • The data obtained from TEMPO will lead to an unprecedented improvement in the existing data regarding air pollution.
  • It will also have information about ozone, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide etc.
  • This figure will be important not only for the US but also for Canada, Cuba and the Bahamas etc.
  • It will record the level of air pollution in an area of 10 square kilometers each time.
