Buyer-seller workshops were organized in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh
Government E-Marketplace (GeM) organized buyer-seller workshops in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. GeM is an online platform for procurement of goods and services by government departments, public sector units and other agencies. The objective of these workshops is to enhance the understanding of GeM's functionalities among the buyers and sellers in the state, as well as provide a platform to address any queries or concerns. The workshop will continue till August 31 this year.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, the buyer-seller workshop is an important step towards ensuring reach and participation from every corner of the state. The ministry said, GeM believes in empowering buyers and sellers in remote districts of Uttar Pradesh by providing them with the necessary knowledge and resources to effectively avail the benefits of the platform.
What is GeM?
Government e-Marketplace (GeM), a government-run e-commerce portal, is an initiative launched by the government to enable easy online purchase of essential consumer goods and services by various government departments, organizations and PSUs .
What is public procurement?
Government offices like any other private companies look forward to purchase goods and services to meet their operational and office needs. Public procurement can be explained as the process by which central, state governments and public enterprises buy goods and services from private traders and manufacturers.
Benefits of GeM to Sellers:
- Business Assistance – Registering on the GeM portal will help sellers to assist their business with the government. It is useful for the growth of private companies and vendors. All government offices must meet their procurement requirement by purchasing only through vendors registered under GeM portal.
- Direct Government Purchase- Traders can sell their products directly to government buyers at a reasonable price without any bidding.
- Special benefits for startups – The government has relaxed the terms and conditions for new startups to buy goods from them.
- Less Paper Work- Less paper work is required to register yourself on the GeM portal. Sellers can easily register themselves and start earning.
- Transparency- With the online GeM portal, there has been an improvement in transparency, effectiveness and speed during procurement of essential goods and services.
