Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Anurag Singh Thakur launched the updated News on Air mobile app along with Prasar Bharati's news sharing service PB-SHABD and websites of DD News and All India Radio at an event at the National Media Centre, New Delhi.

About PB-SHABD:

  • Prasar Bharati – Shared Audio Visual for Broadcasting and Dissemination (PB-SHABD) platform is designed to provide daily news feed in video, audio, text, photo and other formats to clients from across the media landscape.
  • Powered by Prasar Bharati's vast network of journalists, correspondents and stringers, the service will bring you the latest news from different parts of the country.
  • It will be a single point source of news content for all organizations. The SHABD service is being provided free of charge for the first year as an introductory offering and will provide news stories in all major Indian languages across fifty categories.
  • Shared feeds can be used to create customized storytelling across different platforms. As an introductory offering, the services will be available free of cost and will greatly help small newspapers, TV channels and digital portals.

Objective of PB-SHABD:

  • Over the years, Prasar Bharati has created a wide network of news gathering as well as news distribution.
  • It aggregates and distributes news in every regional language and from every corner of the country.
  • Prasar Bharati will reach out to all media organizations in India;
  • Prasar Bharati will share audio, video, photo and reading material based information collected by its network with other print and electronic media organizations.
  • News organizations will be provided with clean information.
  • It will not even have the Doordarshan logo.
  • This information will be collected from all corners of the country in different languages.
  • This will revolutionize the news industry and massively assist small news organizations that do not have a wide network to gather content.
  • PB-SHABD will be a one-stop source for providing news content to all such organizations.

What is Prasar Bharati?

  • It is the country's public service broadcaster.
  • It is a statutory autonomous body established in 1997 under the Prasar Bharati Act.
  • Purpose: To operate public broadcasting services for the purpose of informing and entertaining the public.
  • It includes the Doordarshan Television Network and All India Radio, which were previously media units of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
