Eiffel Tower Paris Overview

The Eiffel Tower is a very beautiful iron tower located in Paris, the capital of France, located in Western Europe. The Eiffel Tower, one of the seven wonders of the world, is a symbol of French culture.

It was constructed in the year 1889 as the entrance to the World's Fair held in France, when this tower was completed, it was the tallest building in the world at the time. Later there were plans to demolish the tower, but it was decided not to demolish it due to its beauty, growing popularity and making it a radio antenna.

Eiffel Tower Paris History

The Global Fair was organized in the year 1889 to mark the First centenary of the French Revolution. The government wanted to build a tower as the entrance to this fair. The government had three main conditions for this Tower:

  • The Height of the Tower should be 300 meters.
  • This Tower construction should be made of iron only.
  • The Distance between the four main points of the tower should be 125 meters.

The Eiffel Tower project was approved out of 107 schemes, considering all the three conditions announced by the Government. After which the construction of this tower was started in the year 1887 and it was completed by 1889. It was inaugurated on 31 March 1889 and from 6 May this tower was opened to the general public.

  1. This Tower was built between 1887 and 1889 on the banks of the Seine River in Paris.
  2. Its architect was Gustave Eiffel, due to which it was named the Eiffel Tower.
  3. It took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days to make it, it was made by about 300 laborers together.
  4. The Total height of this tower is about 324 meters (1,063 ft).
  5. The Total weight of the Eiffel Tower is about 10,000 tons.
  6. This Tower is made entirely of iron metal, so it shrinks by about 6 inches in winter.
  7. When this tower was built it was red in colour.
  8. As of March 2018, its color has been changed 18 times. The entire tower is painted every 7-8 years. About 60 tons of paint is spent to paint this tower.
  9. This Tower has 3 levels for tourists to visit, in which there is a restaurant on the first and second level. Its topmost level is at a height of 276 meters above the surface. There are 1665 steps in this tower. Lift facility is also available in the tower.
  10. This Tower is open 365 days a year for tourists coming from India and abroad.
  11. It is illegal to photograph this tower at night. Actually the design of the lights here is copyrighted by its artists. According to Europe's copyright law, taking pictures of copyrighted things is a violation of copyright rules.

  13. Every year about 7 million people from different countries of the world come to Paris to see it.
  14. Excluding the antenna, the Eiffel Tower is the second tallest building in France after the Millau Viaduct.
  15. During the First World War, this tower was also used to send taxis from Paris to the battle front in the Battle of the Marne.
  16. To keep this tower always shining and shining, it has been decorated with about 20,000 bulbs.
  17. This Tower is illuminated every night till 1 o'clock (in summer till 2 o'clock) so that it can be easily seen from a distance even in the middle of the night.
