Tipu Sultan - Ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore (1761)

Tipu Sultan was the ruler of the erstwhile Mysore state of India. Tipu Sultan is said to be a great ruler. He became the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore in 1761 with his strength. Tipu is known as the lion of Mysore. Apart from a worthy ruler, Tipu was also a scholar, skilled scholar and poet.

Tipu Sultan was born on 20 November 1750 in Devanhalli, Karnataka (India). His full name was "Sultan Fateh Ali Khan Shahab". This name was named by his father. His father's name was Hyder Ali and mother's name was Fatima Fakhr-un-Nisa. His father was a military officer serving the Kingdom of Mysore.

Tipu's father, Hyder Ali, was a military officer in the service of the Kingdom of Mysore, who became the de facto ruler of Mysore in 1761, while his mother, Fatima Fakhr-un-Nisa, was the daughter of Governor Mir Mud-ud-Din. He embarked on an ambitious economic development program at the end of the 18th century establishing Mysore as a major economic power with the world's highest real wages and standard of living. He won a significant victory against the British in the Second Anglo-Mysore War and negotiated the 17th Treaty with Mangalore. His father died of cancer in December 1782 during the Second Anglo-Mysore War. Tipu became an enemy of the British East India Company in 1789, due to conflict with his attack on the British-affiliated Travancore. In the Third Anglo-Mysore War, he was forced into the Treaty of Seringapatam, losing the number of previously conquered territories, including Malabar and Mangalore.

In an attempt to oppose the British, he sent messengers to foreign states including the Ottoman Empire, Afghanistan and France. In the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, the imperial army of the British East India Company had the support of the Marathas. Tipu declared Mysore a Muslim state as soon as he ascended the throne.
