Har Gobind Khorana - First person of Indian origin to receive Nobel Prize in the field of medicine (1968)
Dr. Hargovind Khurana was an Indian-American scientist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1968 for demonstrating the role of nucleotides in protein synthesis. He was given the award jointly with two more American scientists.
When Hargovind Khurana came to India after getting education from England, he did not find any work worthy of him. Frustrated, Daubra went to England where he got membership in the University of Cambridge and had the opportunity to work with Lord Todd. After this, in 1952, Hargovind was appointed Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry of the British Columbia Research Council of Canada. In 1960, he got the position of Professor in the Institute of Enzyme Research at the University of Wisconsin, USA. After which he accepted American citizenship.
Hargovind continued to study the chemical composition of nuclei of organism cells for a long time. The discovery of nuclei with respect to nuclear acids has been taking place for a long time, but this was made possible by the special methods of Dr. Khurana. The subject of their study is the extremely complex, basic, chemical structures of subsets called nucleotids. By combining these aggregates, Dr. Khurana succeeded in making compounds called nucleoprotid enzymes of two classes of importance. Dr. Khurana was successful in combining eleven nucleotides and now he was able to laboratory synthesis of nucleic acids with known chain nucleotides, this success has made it possible to understand the structure and genetic properties of amino acids and scientists are now genetically You will be able to find the cause of diseases and the remedy to overcome them. Explain that Hargovind Khurana was the first to demonstrate the role of nucleotide in protein synthesis.
