Janaki became a moderately successful actress in the late 1940s. M. G. R. His first film with was made in 1948, which typified the story "Baghdad Ka Chor". He starred in over 25 films including Mohini (1948), Raja Mukti, Velakiyari, Ayiram Thalaivangia Aborva Chintamani, Devaki and Marudhanattu Ilavarasi. She had several hit films where her future husband Ramachandran played the lead role and she played either the heroine (Marudhanattu Ilavarasi) or a lead supporting role (Raja Mukti, Velakiyari etc.).

The first film where the two worked together was Mohini (1948), which was the first real blockbuster for both of them. Ramachandran participated in the 1977 elections and took over as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He remained the Chief Minister till the day of his death in 1987. Janaki was by his side the whole time, but only as a devoted wife. He played no role and took little interest in his political activities or affairs of the state. Ramachandran groomed other young leaders of his party for political responsibility, including actress Jayalalithaa. Ramachandran's brother named his studio JR. Had kept the studio. She was the founder president of the Satya Educational and Charitable Society, managing several educational institutions in Chennai. Janaki Ramachandran, her husband M.G.
