M. S. Subbulakshmi was a famous composer of Karnataka. His full name is Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi. She was the first singer in the country to be awarded India's highest civilian award "Bharat Ratna". Her sung songs, especially bhajans are still popular among the people. She was the first Indian to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. Her first recording was released when she was just 10 years old. MS also acted in a few Tamil films in her youth. Her first film was titled Sevasadanam which was released on May 2, 1938.
