Shanno Devi was an Indian politician. She was the first woman speaker of a state assembly in India and a member of the Indian National Congress from the Indian state of Punjab.
Shanno Devi was from the Indian National Congress Party and represented Amritsar City West constituency (1951 to 1957) and Jagadhri constituency (1962 to 1966) in the Indian state of Punjab. Devi was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly (then undivided India) for the first time after defeating Ganga Ram's son from Multan in 1940 by around 6000 votes. She was re-elected to the same seat in 1946, defeating her nearest rival candidate. In the following election of 1951, he contested on behalf of the Indian National Congress and won against Prakash Chand of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh by nearly 8000 votes, and was re-elected as a member of the Punjab Assembly in the 1962 assembly election. Indian National Congress ticket after defeating JS's Inder Sen by around 5000 votes. On 6 December 1966, she joined the Haryana Legislative Assembly as its first speaker, where she also served as deputy speaker. Devi was from the Indian National Congress Party and represented Amritsar City. She was elected twice to the Punjab Legislative Assembly and then to the Haryana Legislative Assembly. She was re-elected to the same seat in 1946 by defeating her closest rival candidate by 19000 votes.
