Shanno Devi was from the Indian National Congress Party and represented Amritsar City West constituency (1951 to 1957) and Jagadhri constituency (1962 to 1966) in the Indian state of Punjab. Devi was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly (then undivided India) for the first time after defeating Ganga Ram's son from Multan in 1940 by around 6000 votes. She was re-elected to the same seat in 1946, defeating her nearest rival candidate. In the following election of 1951, he contested on behalf of the Indian National Congress and won against Prakash Chand of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh by nearly 8000 votes, and was re-elected as a member of the Punjab Assembly in the 1962 assembly election.
