Dr. Manmohan Singh is famous as the 13th Prime Minister of India. He is known for his humility, diligence and commitment to work. He is also an economist. Dr. Manmohan Singh was sworn in as Prime Minister on 22 May 2004 after the 2004 general election and became the Prime Minister of India for the second time on 22 May 2009. Manmohan Singh's wife's name is Mrs. Gursharan Kaur. Manmohan Singh and Amrit Kaur have 3 daughters.

Dr. Manmohan Singh was born on 26 September 1932 in a village in the Punjab province of undivided India. His mother's name was Amrit Kaur and father's name was Gurmukh Singh. He had lost his mother in his childhood, after his mother's death, he was raised by his grandmother, who was from a poor family.

Dr. Manmohan Singh served as a teacher at Punjab University and Delhi School of Economics which showed his academic excellence. In the meantime, he also worked for the UNCTAD Secretariat for a few years. Based on this, he was appointed as General Secretary of the South Commission in Geneva in 1987 and 1990. Dr. Singh gained considerable fame as a teacher of economics. He was a professor at Punjab University and later at the prestigious Delhi School of Economics. Meanwhile, he was also an advisor in the United Nations Trade and Development Conference Secretariat and was secretary in the South Commission in Geneva in 1987 and 1990. He has also been the Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the University Grants Commission.

In 1971, Manmohan Singh was appointed as the Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India. In 1972, he was appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance. Namohan Singh has also served as the Governor of Reserve Bank of India from 16 September 1982 to 14 January 1985. Manmohan Singh was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India in 1985 during the rule of Rajiv Gandhi. Besides, he has also done important work for the International Monetary Fund and the Asian Development Bank. In the year 2002, Manmohan Singh was awarded the Best Parliamentarian Award. Manmohan Singh was sworn in as the country's first Sikh Prime Minister on 22 May 2004. After which he became the first person in India to serve as Governor and Prime Minister for the Government of India. After the victory in the Lok Sabha elections in 2009, Manmohan Singh became the first Prime Minister of India after Jawaharlal Nehru to have the opportunity to become the Prime Minister for the second consecutive time after completing his 5-year term successfully. Apart from this, he has also done important work for International Monetary Fund and Asian Development Bank.

In March 1983, Dr. Manmohan was awarded Doctor of Letters by the University of Punjab. In 1997, the University of Alberta awarded him an honorary Doctor of Law degree. The University of Oxford awarded him an honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law in July 2005, and in October 2006, the University of Cambridge also followed with the same honor. After the Dr. Manmohan Singh Scholarship, St. John's College awarded him a PhD scholarship name. In 2008, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Banaras Hindu University or later in the same year he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Madras. In 2010, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by King Saud University. In 2013, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. In 2017, was awarded the Indira Gandhi Award for Peace, Disarmament and Development.
