Anna Chandy - First Indian woman judge of High Court (1959)

Justice Anna Chandy was the first woman judge of India and also the first woman judge of the High Court of India. For decades before Elizabeth Lane, she was the first female judge in the entire Anglo-Saxon world. She joined the Court of Justice in the year 1928 and was appointed as District Judge (Munsif) by Sir CP Ramaswamy.

Anna Chandy was born on 04 May 1905 in Trivandrum, Travancore (India) to a Malayali Syrian Christian parent.
Anna Chandy died on 20 July 1996 in Kerala, India.
After obtaining a master's degree in 1926, she became the first woman in her state to have a law degree in Kerala.
In 1928, Anna Chandy came in the court service and was given the title of Sir C.P. Appointed as District Judge (Munsif) by Ramaswamy who was the then Diwan of Travancore. While practicing as a lawyer since 1929, she was actively involved in promoting the cause of women's rights and their basic role in society. She served as a judge in the Kerala High Court from 9 February 1959 to 5 April 1967. During her tenure, she gave birth to women's career hopes in the legal field of India. He challenged the Sri Mulam Popular Assembly in 1931 and was successfully elected for the period 1932–34. Anna Chandy was one of the earliest torchbearers of women's rights in India. During her tenure, she gave birth to the career hopes of women in India's legal field. When she was appointed to the Kerala High Court on 09 February 1959, she became the first woman judge to be appointed to the High Court of India. She remained in that office until 05 April 1967. In his retirement, Chandy also worked in the Law Commission of India and in 1973 wrote a book titled "Autobiography".
