Kania did her BA from Samaldas College in 1910, followed by LLB from Government Law College, Bombay in 1912 and LLM from the same institute in 1913. Kusum was the daughter of Sir Chunnilal Mehta, who was once a member of the Executive Council of the Governor of Bombay.
