Bachendri Pal was born on 24 May 1954 in Nakuri Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand (India). His father's name is Kishanpal Singh and mother's name is Hansa Devi. She was one of the five children of her parents.
Bachendri Pal earned his M.A. and B.Ed D.A.V. Completed from Post Graduate College, Dehradun. He started participating in mountaineering at the age of just 12, one he reached 13,123 feet (3,999.9 m) high during a school picnic with his friends. At the invitation of her school principal, she was sent to the college for higher studies and became the first girl to climb Mt. in 1982 during her course at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. Gangotri 121,889.77 ft (37,152 m) and Mt. Rudragarhia 19,091 ft (5,818.9 m). During that time, she was employed as an instructor at the National Adventure Foundation (NAF), which established an adventure school to train women to learn mountaineering.

Bachendri Pal faced stiff opposition from his family and relatives but still decided to choose a career as a professional climber rather than a schoolteacher. And he also soon found success in his chosen field. After a summit of several small peaks, he was selected to join India's first mixed-gender team in 1984 for a campaign on Mount Everest.
