Australian Open 2024 Winners

The 2024 Australian Open was a Grand Slam level tennis tournament held at Melbourne Park from 14–28 January 2024. It was the 112th edition of the Australian Open, the 56th in the Open era, and the first major of the year. The tournament consists of singles, doubles and mixed doubles events for professional players. Junior and wheelchair players competed in singles and doubles tournaments. Kia is the main sponsor of the tournament. In the tournament's 119-year history, it was the first Australian Open Tennis Championships to be held on an early Sunday.

Novak Djokovic was the defending men's singles champion. He was defeated in the semi-finals by Jannik Sinner, who went on to win his first major title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in a five-set final. Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended the women's singles title and won her second major singles title by defeating Zheng Qianwen without losing a single set during the tournament.

Men's Singles Winner:
Jannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the final to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2024 Australian Open. It was her first major singles title and the first title by an Italian player, male or female, at the Australian Open. Sinner has become the first Italian player to win the men's singles final at the Australian Open. Sinner became the youngest Australian Open champion since Novak Djokovic.

Women's Singles Winner:
Aryna Sabalenka defeated Zheng Qianwen 6-3, 6-2 in the final to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2024 Australian Open. It was his second major singles title. Sabalenka is the first woman to win consecutive Australian Open titles since Victoria Azarenka in 2012 and 2013.

Women's Doubles Winner:
Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens won the women's doubles tennis title at the 2024 Australian Open, defeating Lyudmila Kichenok and Jhenna Ostapenko 6–1, 7–5 in the final. It was their second major title as a team, Hsieh's eighth major title, and Mertens' fourth.
Su Wei, 38, has become the second oldest woman to win a Grand Slam doubles title after America's Lisa Raymond.

The tournament included the following changes compared to previous tournaments:

  • The first round matches took place over three days instead of two.
  • The day session at Central Court, Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena played a maximum of two matches instead of three to avoid matches lasting until the early hours of the morning, such as the match between Andy Murray and Thanasi Kokkinakis in 2023. Which ended at 4:05 am local time.
  • The schedule at John Cain Arena will remain the same. However, the success of this policy change is questionable, as some matches in this edition of the tournament still ended after midnight, including a match between Daniil Medvedev and Emil Ruusuvuori, which ended at 3:40 am local time. Happened.
  • With the additional day of competition the number of playing sessions for the event increased from 47 to 52.
