Desert Cyclone 2024
The joint military exercise 'Desert Cyclone 2024' between India and the United Arab Emirates began in Rajasthan from January 2 and will continue till January 15. This exercise is being organized to promote exchange of best practices with special focus on urban governance. The two-week long program is designed to facilitate learning and sharing of best practices in urban operations. The exercise aims to strengthen relations between the Indian and UAE armed forces.
What is 'Desert Cyclone 2024'?
The objective of this joint operation is to pave the way for greater cooperation in various areas of defence. This includes production and development of defense equipment, joint exercises involving the armed forces, with special emphasis on naval operations. Additionally, the joint operation will share strategic information and doctrine as well as receive technical cooperation related to the Intermediate Jet Trainer program.
Defense relations expected to strengthen between India and UAE
'Desert Cyclone 2024' highlights the shared commitment of India and the UAE to regional security and stability. It is expected that the cooperative military partnership will not only strengthen defense relations between India and the UAE, but also contribute to the broader goal of promoting regional peace and security.
The first joint exercise took place in 2008
The first joint air force exercise between India and the United Arab Emirates was held at Al-Dhafra Base in Abu Dhabi in September 2008. Additionally, India has been participating in the biennial International Defense Exhibition (IDEX) held in Abu Dhabi. The Indian Army has described the exercise being conducted in Rajasthan as very important for both the countries. The navies of both the countries have also been regularly participating in the activities.
