Gunotsav 2024

The Assam government launched 'Gunotsav 2024', a comprehensive statewide assessment aimed at evaluating the performance of nearly 40 lakh students of 43,498 government schools spread across 35 districts. Gunotsav, an initiative of the Government of Assam, is covering all government primary and secondary schools in the state. To facilitate the evaluation process, a total of 18,098 external evaluators were deployed across the state. This diverse group of evaluators will include Chief Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretaries and college teachers, government officials and others who will visit schools as external evaluators.

The exercise will conclude on February 8 in three phases. The first phase will cover 12 districts from January 3 to 6, the second phase will cover 13 districts from January 10 to 12 and the final phase will cover the remaining 10 districts from February 6 to 8.

What is Assam Gunotsav

Gunotsav Assam is an initiative of the Government of Assam in elementary education and secondary school education, by Samagra Shiksha Assam to raise the quality of education, infrastructure in schools for students and teacher-student ratio. It is the method of evaluation and rating of schools for education in Assam so that the weak ones can go for improvement by an external evaluator. External evaluators are all Gazetted Officers of the Government of Assam (India), may or may not be from the Education Department, for the first time in 2017 and is conducted every year.

Important guidelines are as follows:

  • There will be two different types of assessment i.e. Self-Assessment 1 and External Assessment 2
  • 90% marks will be given for academic work, 5% for co-curricular activities and 5% for community service.
  • 42,76,881 students from classes I to VIII are included.
  • The purpose of Gunotsav 2024 question paper is to analyze educational strengths, identify learning gaps and enhance education.
