Lala Lajpat Rai - Founder of Punjab National Bank (1895)
Lala Lajpat Rai was a prominent freedom fighter of India. They are also called Punjab Kesari. He also founded Punjab National Bank and Laxmi Insurance Company. He was one of the three prominent leaders of the Garam Dal Lal-Bal-Pal in the Indian National Congress.
Lala ji joined the Congress' Prayag Sammelan "of 1888 at the age of 23. In 1888, he attended the Allahabad session of the Congress for the first time, which was presided over by Mr. George Yule. Lala Lajpat Rai Is also known as' Punjab Kesari "or" Lion of Punjab ". Lalaji was instrumental in making the Congress's "Lahore Session" a success. He was elected a member of the "Municipal Corporation of Hisar" and was later elected Secretary. Lala Lajpat Rai was also the head of the "Lakshmi Insurance Company". Lala Lajpat Rai was also made the president of the Calcutta session of the "Hindu Mahasabha" held in the year 1925. In 1927, Lajpat Rai established a trust to build and run a tuberculosis hospital for women in memory of his mother, allegedly at the place where his mother, Gulab Devi, died of tuberculosis in Lahore. . It was opened on Gulab Devi Chest Hospital and on 17 July 1934. Now Gulab Devi Memorial Hospital is one of the largest hospital in present-day Pakistan which serves more than 2000 patients at a time.
