Acharya Vinoba Bhave was a famous Indian freedom fighter and Gandhian leader. He is considered the national teacher of India and the spiritual successor of Mahatma Gandhi. He was a well-known social reformer and the founder of a movement called 'Bhoodan Yajna'. He spent the last years of his life at the ashram in Ponar, Maharashtra. He was interested in chemistry.

Vinoba Bhave was born on 11 September 1895 in Gahode, Gujarat (India) to an aristocratic Brahmin family. Vinoba Bhave's real name was Vinayak Narhari Bhave. His father's name was Narhari Shambhu Rao and mother's name was Rukmini Devi.
Vinoba Bhave died on 15 November 1982 at his Brahm Vidya Mandir Ashram in Paunar, Wardha district, Maharashtra. He accepted the "Samadhi Maran / Santhara" mentioned in Jainism and later gave up food and medicine for a few days due to which he died.
A newspaper report about Gandhi's speech at Banaras Hindu University attracted Bhave's attention. In 1918, on his way to Bombay to sit for the intermediate examination, Bhave threw his school and college certificates into the fire. Bhave took this decision after reading excerpts written in a newspaper written by Mahatma Gandhi. Bhave met Gandhi on 7 June 1916 and later left his studies.

It is said that Gandhi followed and respected Bhave's celibacy, which he did in his teenage years, in fitting with his belief in celibacy theory. Bhave also participated in the Quit India Movement. In the year 1923, Vinoba Bhave also started publishing a Marathi monthly paper called Maharashtra Dharma". Bhave was arrested several times during the 1920s and 1930s and given a five-year prison sentence for non-violent resistance against British rule in the 1940s. Jails had become places of reading and writing for Bhave. He wrote Ishwar Svarti and Shataprajna Darshan in prison. He also learned four South Indian languages ​​and scripted the folk city in Vellore Jail. On 18 April 1951, Bhave started the Bhoodan movement, his land donation movement in Pochampally in Nalgonda district, Telangana. In 1958, Bhave was the first recipient of the International Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1983.
