Names and fields of Padma Awards 2018 winners:

The Central Government has announced the Padma awards on 25 January i.e. Thursday, a day before the 69th Republic Day celebrations. This year 85 persons have been selected for the Padma Awards by the President. The list includes the names of 03 Padma Vibhushan, 09 Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri awardees. The Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards are given every year for notable contribution in various fields. These awards are presented to all Padma awardees at a function to be organized by the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan in March/April. Noted music composer Ilaiyaraaja, Hindu ideologue Parameswaran Parameswaran Hindustani classical singer Ghulam Mustafa Khan will be conferred the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second-highest civilian honour.

Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, billiards player Pankaj Advani, musician Arvind Parikh, archaeologist Ramachandran Nagaswamy and Goa-based artist Laxman Pai will be honored with the Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian award. 73 people, including women's weightlifting (weightlifter) player Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, tennis player Somdev Devvarman, badminton player Kidambi Srikanth and India's first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Patkar, will be honored with the Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian honour. 16 of the Padma awardees this year are either foreigners or NRIs or of Indian origin.

3 celebrities have been conferred with Padma Awards posthumously. The Home Ministry said that this year the government had received more than 15,700 applications for the Padma awards, while in 2016 the number was more than 18,000. For your information, let us tell you that from the year 1947 to 2018, a total of 4502 persons have been honored with the prestigious Padma Awards of the country.
