Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Sammelan
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention 2023 Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated every year on 9th January. This time the Madhya Pradesh government is organizing the three-day 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Sammelan from January 8 in Indore in association with the Madhya Pradesh government. This time more than 500 NRIs took part in its conference, which was also addressed by PM Modi.
History of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa on 09 January 1915 and lit the flame of freedom in the country after coming back. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated to commemorate their return and the beginning of the freedom struggle. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was first celebrated in 2003 and since then it is organized every year. The event is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in association with CII and other stakeholders. It organizes several seminars, panel discussions and cultural events. It is attended by parliamentarians, legislators, business leaders, academicians and members of the Indian community abroad.
Theme of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2023
Every year a new theme is chosen to celebrate this day. The official theme of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2023 is "Pravasis: Reliable Partners for India's Progress in the Age of Amrit Kaal". The theme focuses on the importance of the Indian diaspora in the development of the country.
Significance of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas
Pravasi Bhartiya Divas primarily aims to provide a platform for engagement with the Government of India, sharing of experiences and expertise of the Indian community. On this occasion, apart from showcasing the achievements and progress of the Government of India, it tries to activate investment and business from overseas Indians. Sessions on business, industry, education, health, science and technology, cultural issues are being held on this occasion.
Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Award
There is also a tradition of giving Pravasi Bhartiya Samman on this occasion. This honor is given to those overseas Indians who have made significant contribution and service to the development of India apart from the country where they are currently settled. It is credited by the President of India during the ceremony.
