Buland Darwaza Fatehpur Sikri Overview

The Buland Darwaza is a scenic monument located at a place called Fatehpur Sikri, about 43 km from Agra city of Uttar Pradesh, the country's largest state. It was built in 1602 by Emperor Akbar, grandson of the Mughal Empire's founder Zaheeruddin Muhammad Babur. This monument is the largest donor in the world, in which a wonderful mix of Hindu and Persian architecture is seen.

The third Mughal ruler Emperor Akbar defeated the king of Gujarat in 1602 AD. In order to make the happiness of his victory, Akbar built this door that looked like a mosque at a place called Fatehpur Sikri in Agra. In the Persian on the eastern toran of its entrance, inscriptions are inscribed in Persian, which is recorded in 1601 as the victory of Akbar on the Deccan. This door is one of the most amazing and attractive Architectures of the Mughal period.

  1. It took 12 years to build this Mughal heritage.
  2. The height of this door is 53.63 meters and the width is 35 meters, in which there are a total of 42 steps.
  3. Red sandstone was used in its construction, the interiors of which are carved in white and black marble.
  4. The verses of the Quran are written on the outer parts and pillars of this door.
  5. This door also has a large courtyard that opens towards Jama Masjid.
  6. This gate is of rectangular shape and is decorated with domes and minarets.
  7. Some lines related to Jesus Christ are also written on the arch of the door.
  8. In this door, huge doors made of ebony, about 400 years old, are attached as they are.
  9. To enter the dargah of Sheikh, one has to pass through this gate.
  10. To its left is the Jama Masjid and in front is the tomb of Sheikh. The graves of their relatives are also present near the Mazar or samadhi.
  11. This door was used in ancient times to keep guard at the southeast entrance of Fatehpur Sikri.
  12. A mini-train also runs from near the port to the entrance of the caves, whose fare is only Rs.10 per person.
  13. The entrance fee of this building, protected by Uttar Pradesh, is Rs 50 for Indian people and Rs 485 per person for foreign tourists.
  14. Its opening time is 8 am and closing time is 7 pm.
  15. The best time to visit it is between November to March, as the temperature remains normal in India, neither too cold nor too hot.
