The First National Milk Day was celebrated on 26 November 2014, in which various milk producers from 22 states participated. World Milk Day is celebrated by the United Nations on 1 June every year.
India has Achieved a growth rate of 6.28 percent in milk production in the last two years 2014-15 and 2015-16. Due to this the per capita availability of milk has increased from 307 grams per day in the year 2013-14 to 340 grams per day in the year 2015-16. In 1998, India became the largest milk producer in the world, overtaking the United States.

Kurien was born on November 26, 1921 in Kozhikode, Kerala. Dr. Verghese Kurien was a renowned Indian social entrepreneur and is still known as the 'Father of the White Revolution' for his 'Billion Liter Idea' (Operation Flood) - the world's largest agricultural development program - today.
Dr. Verghese Kurien is known as the 'Father of White Revolution' in India. This operation gave India more progress than America in 1998 and made it the largest producer of milk from a milk-deficient country.

- Dr. Verghese Kurien, also known as Milkman of India, made the country the world's largest producer of milk by removing the shortage of milk.
- He established 30 institutions, which are run by various farmers and activists.
