Punjab General Knowledge: Punjab is a state in north-west India that forms a part of the greater Punjab region. The other part of it is in Pakistan. The current Chief Minister of Punjab is Bhagwant Mann. Bhagwant Mann has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 16 September 2021. Captain Amarinder Singh has become the 26th Chief Minister of Punjab. Gopi Chand Bhargava was the first Chief Minister of Punjab. Other parts of the Punjab region (of India) are in the states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
It is bounded by Pakistani Punjab in the west, Jammu and Kashmir in the north, Himachal Pradesh in the northeast, Haryana in the south and southeast, the Union Territory of Chandigarh in the southeast and the state of Rajasthan in the southwest. The total population of the state is 2,42,89,296 and the total area is 50,372 square kilometer. The Union Territory of Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab, which is also the capital of the state of Haryana. The major cities of Punjab are Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala and Bathinda.

History of Punjab: 1947 After the Partition of India, the Punjab province of British India was given a partition between India and Pakistan. In 1966, the Indian Punjab was partitioned again and as a result Haryana and Himachal Pradesh came under Hond and became the present state of Punjab. It is the only diocese in India where Sikhs are in majority.
Meaning of the word Punjab:The word 'Punjab' is derived from the Persian words 'panj' five and 'ab' water which literally means 'area of five rivers'. These five rivers are: Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum. During the partition of India in 1947 on religious grounds, the Chenab and Jhelum rivers went into the Punjab province of Pakistan. The Chief Minister is the head of the government of any state in the Republic of India.
